From Koala Villas To Myall Lakes - March 4

Koala Campsite

Up this morning at the usual time made coffee and had some wheat-bix. We were on the road by 08:30, which is way better than we have been doing so far. We drove to Macksville were we stopped for coffee and a gas-up. At the coffee shop a local gentleman (Ron as it turned out) was sitting out side and guided me in as I backed in by the patio. We began to chat but, fortunately/unfortunately, he turned out to be a genuine Aussie! I only understood about half of what he said and even at that all I heard was like Ooly Booly Wooliegong Coolangatta mate! I really need an Aussie translator progam in the I-Pad.

We stopped in at Kempsey, a little further down the road to get some grocery supplies, booze and a couple of things like mossie netting for the camper. The shopping went well but, in my left hand Aussie confusion, inherent on this continent, i left the bag of booze laying on the ground behind the van and drove away. We did not discover this grievous error until we set up camp for the night. I was really looking forward to some rum!! :-(

Lunch today was on the road, sandwiches while driving. We did stop at an informatin place in Taree, where Diane bought an Aussie sun hat. I found one that suited me (I mean what doesn't really!) but I am holding out for one that is water proof. I figure I might as well buy one that I can use in Canada as well as Australia

We are sitting before our first road-trip fire at Dee's Point camp site in Myall National Park on the coast just north Newcastle. I had a pleasant swim in the salt lake to cool down before supper. Mossies are relatively bad here tonite but still better than most evenings at the cabin, so no need yet for repellant, though we did light a couple of mossie coils while we sat around the fire. We also chatted with a young french couple who parked next door to us in a Wicked van similar to ours.
