Despite the rain last night the morning broke clear and warm. We packed up and were on the road around 09:00. We were headed back towards Sydney, then veered south towards the coast. Our objective today was the Grand Pacific Highway, a stretch of scenic sea side roadway running along the cliffs and bluffs over looking the Tasman Sea. We stopped on the way through Sutherland to get a coffee and pick up something for lunch along the road. We had to pick up a park pass at Audley so we could stop in the park, the same idea as the park pass in Banff. We lunched at Governor Game Lookout. You have to look out for the large bat-like creatures in the trees!!
The drive was windy and scenic with plenty of viewpoints along the way where we stopped and enjoyed the view. One of the highlights of the drive was the Sea Cliff Bridge that runs about 2 km, suspended above the ocean surf along the cliff side. We stopped at the bridge and walked half of its length and back. Continuing south we passed Woolengong and arrived at the Killalea National Park and camp ground. We only had enough time to set-up and take a short walk down to the beach and back before the rain started in earnest. It rained for the remainderq of the evening, putting a real damper on our plans for a nice fire here. We read under cover of our tarp and.were in bed by 9:30.
