View from the bridge
Today we spent just stolling around Sydney. There Is a Sydney trainstop just up the road from our camp site. We caught the subway/train into Sydney and got off at Milsons point. Milsons is the stop just at the north end of the Sydney Harbour bridge. We walked across the bridge with some great views of Sydney Harbour and the Opera House. Just off the end of the bridge is "The Rocks" which is part of the old harbour area that has been rejuvinated. Lots of shops, restaurants, pubs, street performers and cool stuff along narow cobblestone streets and brick and stone buildings from the mid 1800's. We have beer, calamari and chips on the roof of Glenmore pub. We Skyped with Harold from there but had some sound trouble. Harold could hear us but we could not hear him. Wow, I did not know vacation could be so good!

Strolling in the Rocks
After the rocks we walked over to Circle Quay and caught the ferry to Watson's Bay. Watson's Bay is on the south point, near the entrance to Sydney Harbour. There were several stops along the way but we stayed on the ferry till Watson's. Once there we hiked over the headland and had a great view of the Tasman Sea, just outside of the Harbour itself. We enjoyed an ice cream, ice coffee, and we dabbled our feet in the water before taking the return ferry back into Sydney. We got some great shots of the Harbour Bridge and Opera house on the way back in.

At the Opera House, Harbour Bridge in back
Back at the terminal we disembarked and strolled over to the Opera House. The is a Shakspeare play (As You Like It) being performed this month and we pick-up tickets for the Satuday matinee (tomorrow). Already the day is getting on so we make our way to the nearest train station and, after one confused transfer we are on our way back to North Ryde Station, our hopping off point for the campground. Tomorrow is the opera, followed by the Marti Gras, Gay Pride Parade. Should be a culturally interesting day.
P.s. I was rooting through the back of one of our compartments and guess what I found--- All the booze I thought I had left behind!!! All is good with the world again!

we didn't need to know you were 'rooting' when you found the booze. Gross man, gross.
ReplyDeleteWe may be old but we are not dead yet!
