A Beer Before The Play
We took a relaxed morning because we knew it was going to be a longer day today. We started walking to the train terminal around 10:15. That got us into Sydney where we disembarked at the Town Hall station. We wandered around the Queen Victoria building, a huge old building in the heart of Sydney that has been converted into an multilevel shopping area beneath the city. Despite the plethora of shopping opportunities we just strolled around window shopping and people watching. After a stop for coffee at a Starbucks we walk back to the station and caught the train to Circular Quay, near the Opera house. Being Saturday there area lot more folks wandering around like us. We stop for a beer at an outdoor bar on the lower concourse heading out to the opera house then head into the Theatre. The Play, a modern rendition of the play As You Like It, was excellent and ran from 2:00 pm till 4:30 pm.

Making new friends at the parade (please, no down under comments!)
Following the play we caught the train yet again for the centre of the city. It is easy to find our way by just following the brightly dressed crowds. The party atmosphere is amazing, there are costumed people everywhere, most of them half naked, and cross dressers of every sort. We eventually end up at a decent location at the corner of Oxford and Brisbane streets near the start of the parade. This is one of the top two gay pride parades in the world and I would hesitate to guess how many people are here. Folks have come in from all over the world for the event, I have never seen so many people in one area in all my life. Di and I stuck around for the first part of the parade but then make our way towards the train station before the crowds begin to dissipate post parade. It still takes us over an hour to travel the four blocks! At the train station we pop into Coronation Hotel, an english style pub for something to eat and drink. We end up at a nice patio table outside along the side walk where we can finish our beer and watch the people go by. Eventually we head onto the train and for home. We are back at our camper by 10:45 and call it a night.

The Crowd Before it Got Busy!

Wow! You appear to be in a wildlife/cultural mecca. Might have to add Australia to our bucket list!
ReplyDeleteOn our end, the kiln should be hooked up by next week - hopefully the water as well. Still trying to find room for everything in this much smaller space.
The weather here is pretty warm, so we're not as jealous of your current climate as we might be. I know I don't have to tell you to keep on having fun!
Cool that you guys seem to have stumbled upon the set of the new Madmax film
ReplyDeleteYeah I heard the new Mad max is much more colorful and Mom what an interesting choice of angle for photographs hahaha
